United Nations Inter-Agency Games 2023

The United Nations is an international organization founded in the aftermath of the Second World War with the primary aim of promoting peace, security, cooperation and development among its member states. It acts as a forum for nations to collectively address global issues and find diplomatic solutions.

In 1968, at the invitation of the "Commission des Sports de l'Association du personnel del l'UNESCO", a sports meeting was held in Paris between teams from the United Nations, Geneva and UNESCO. Mr. René Maheu, Director-General of UNESCO, donated a cup for the occasion, thus giving birth to the Inter-Agency Games, the spirit of which has remained, although the current name was not adopted until 1972. However, the principle of alternating Games was applied from the outset and the program included five events: chess, soccer, table tennis, tennis and men's volleyball.

We took on the challenge of the Inter-Agency Games with great enthusiasm and had 1173 participants from 129 different countries in Vila Real de Santo António, in the beautiful Algarve region of Portugal. The event took place from October 18 to 22, 2023, with the opening ceremony on the 18th, the competitions from October 19 to 21, the closing ceremony and gala on the evening of the 21st and the regular games starting on the 22nd.
