European Transplant Sports Championships 2024

8 Feb 2024 Sports Events

The European Transplant Sports Championships (ETSC) stands as a testament to the resilience and vitality of individuals who have undergone organ transplantation. This inspiring event serves a dual purpose, celebrating the second chance at life afforded by organ donation and promoting the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle for transplant recipients.

Organized by national transplant sport associations in collaboration with the European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Federation (ETDSF) and the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF), the ETSC brings together participants from various European countries. These individuals, who have received the gift of life through organ transplants, showcase their athletic prowess in a range of sports, including athletics, swimming, cycling, tennis, and more.

The championships, typically held every two years in different European cities, go beyond mere competition. They provide a platform for participants to share their inspirational stories, fostering a sense of community among transplant recipients. The event is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of organ donation and the resilience of the human spirit.

One of the primary goals of the ETSC is to raise awareness about organ donation and honor those who have selflessly chosen to be organ donors. By highlighting the success stories of transplant recipients, the championships aim to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding organ transplantation, encouraging more people to register as organ donors and potentially save lives.

As the championships continue to evolve, they play a crucial role in promoting a broader understanding of the importance of organ donation and transplantation. The impact of the ETSC extends far beyond the sports arena, contributing to a cultural shift towards a more informed and supportive society for organ donation.

We are expecting more than 500 competitors in more than 15 sports, and the event will be hosted by GDTP - Grupo Desportivo de Transplantados de Portugal alongside with O-Sports.

Save the date! The European Championships will be held in Lisbon between 21 and 28 July 2024.
